Zen Ki Yoga at The Centre of Yoga
Welcome to The Centre of Yoga, the home of Janie Larmour’s Zen Ki Yoga.
Zen Ki Yoga is based on shiatsu healing therapy, macrobiotics and yoga. I originally studied Ki Yoga at the Zen Renaissance Centre in Bondi Junction. Toward the end of my study, I found Ryoho yoga in Manly with Andrzej Gospodarczyk and Lisa Foster. I spent the following nine or so years travelling to Manly several times a week to classes to gain a deeper understanding of this yoga, which I have found to be the most powerful and meaningful interpretation of this yoga. I have also done some work with Peter Masters, one of the few teachers in Australia who does the original form of this yoga - Oki do yoga (from the studies of Masahiro Oki).
While I have never formally studied Ryoho or Oki-do yoga and I don’t teach much of Ki yoga anymore, I came up with the name Zen Ki Yoga. Zen Yoga was the original name of Oki do yoga while Masahiro Oki was alive (only changing to Oki-do yoga after his death) and ‘Ki’ is the energy that flows through the meridians that we are working with in Japanese yoga (and the name of the original yoga I studied), so came the name ‘Zen Ki Yoga’. While I have changed the name, I don’t claim to have invented this yoga myself at all. I have borrowed from all of my teachers including my wonderful shiatsu and macrobiotic teacher, Ken McLean and another of my teachers, Mathew Bergan, who teaches a more traditional Indian-type yoga. I have though, added to some poses after 11 years of my own practice and my continuing work with many of these and other teachers.
